There are many advantages of Group Life to the employer.
First, your commercial customers can purchase substantial Life coverage for their employees with minimal monthly payments. For instance, to cover each of 10 employees between the ages of 30 and 40 with $25,000 of Life coverage, the employer could pay as little as $16 per month.
Second, your customers can use Group Life insurance to attract, reward, and retain employees. Surveys have shown that next to vacation time, daycare, and health insurance, employees' value employer-paid Life insurance most. While small business may not be able to match the benefit packages of larger corporations, they can provide ample Life insurance to their employees that is on par with larger institutions.
Advantages for the Employee
The advantages to the employees and their families are twofold. Employees are covered with Life
insurance with no out-of-pocket expense. Even if an employee isn’t an ideal candidate for Life
insurance, perhaps due to health problems, he or she can often still get coverage with-out
undergoing additional underwriting or medical testing. And employees may add supplemental
coverage for themselves and their families.
Basic Life
The advantages to the employees and their families are twofold. Employees are covered with Life
insurance with nBasic Life allows small businesses to offer Life insurance to all of their employees for one low
price. In most cases, the employer pays the premium and the employees receive the benefit at no
cost to them.
Depending on the level of Basic Life purchased by the employer, workers can receive from $10,000 to $100,000 of life insurance coverage. All employees are guaranteed coverage and the application process is extremely simple. In addition the first $30,000 (2-9 Eligible Employees) to $50,000 (10-24 Eligible Employees) of basic coverage is guaranteed issue, no medical questions asked. Amounts above guaranteed issue are underwritten with a simple four question medical application-no exams, lab work or attending physician statements.
Supplemental Life
Supplemental Life is an optional enhancement to the Basic Life plan that allows employees to
purchase $25,000 to $100,000 worth of additional coverage. Employees who choose to add this
supplemental coverage can pay for the additional premium, or the additional coverage can be
paid for by the employer as a way of rewarding exceptional or senior employees.
The best part of Supplemental Life is that the first $30,000 of coverage is guaranteed issue and the amounts above guaranteed issue are under written with a simple four question medical application, again, no exams, lab work or attending physician statements. Also, a spouse or domestic partner as well as dependents can be added to the plan.
Occupational Accidental
Death and Dismemberment
An additional 10 percent benefit is available to cover employees for accidents resulting in
death or dismemberment while working on the job, including while traveling on a business trip.
Accelerated Death
There is an Accelerated Death benefit of 80 percent of Basic and Supplemental coverage, if
life expectancy is 12 months or less.
